The Rebel Sessions Awards first launched in 2011, is to recognize the surfers who rides the South African winter storm biggest waves.
Now in 2016 Rebel Sessions is back with 5 awarding categories:
- Best Surfed Paddle- In Wave
- Biggest Paddle- In Wave
- Best Tow- In wave
- Best Rookie Performance
- Worst Wipe Out
Time Period : The Rebel Sessions are open to waves ridden between 1st July 2016 and 8th October 2016. Category Nominees are announced in November and the winners are revealed at the Rebel Sessions awards in December 2016. (Cape Peninsula / location / date to be confirmed )
Best Surfed Paddle-In Award:
Prize money: R40.000
Awarded to the individual surfer who demonstrates the most advanced and committed level of big wave surfing during a successful ride, as judged by available video-or photography footage.

Biggest Paddle-In Wave Awards
Prize money: R30.000
Awarded to the surfer who paddles into and successfully rides the biggest wave, as judged by available video-or photography footage.
2011 winner for the Biggest Paddle-In wave : Jeremy Johnson
Best Tow-In Wave Award
Prize money: R10.000
Awarded to the surfer who, by tow-in means, catches and successfully rides the best wave, as judged by available video-or photography footage.
2011 Winner of the Biggest Tow-in wave: Andrew Marr
Rookie Performance Award
Prize money: R10.000
Awarded to the young and upcoming big-wave surfer who demonstrates noticeable big-wave performances throughout the period, as judged by available video-or photography footage.

Worst Wipe-Out Award:
Prize money: R10.000
Awarded to recognize the most committed -- yet least successful -- wave of the event window.
